Why Online Ed?
For many years, I have had an interest in the Internet as a means of making my music
easily and widely available to people. But having taught Music Technology in a UK high school for
2001-2, and now teaching Music in a South Australian high school, I have
become convinced, more than ever, of the potential of the internet for
music education.
I now see that the Internet is more than just a marketing tool, and
even much more than just a medium for making educational material
accessible to isolated students. I am convinced that music technology and flexible delivery strategies
can enable students to more effectively develop their creative skills, their
understanding of diverse styles and genre, and to collaborate with each
other in the learning process.
My Goals for the Web include:
- Teaching Composition
- Comprehensive music analysis tools which enable students to
see and hear musical scores as they study them.
- Understanding Harmony with interactive packages that
show with sight and sound the effects of the many choices
composer make for effective voice leading and harmonic
progressions.
- Online forums that bring students from anywhere in the world together
to share experiences and styles.
- A place where students can post their compositions for peer
feedback.
- Classroom music courses
- Flash movies to demonstrate how to play various instruments
and pieces
- Access to World music.
- Teaching Music Ministry courses.
